Video WPM Meter: Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 14, 2026

In short: Video WPM Meter does not collect, store, sell or transmit any personal data. Everything it does happens on your own device.

What the extension does

Video WPM Meter shows the speaking rate, in words per minute, of a video playing in your browser tab. To do this it:

Information we collect

None. The extension does not collect, log or send anywhere your browsing history, the pages you visit, caption text, audio, or any other personal information. It has no servers, no analytics and no advertising, and it makes no network requests.

Audio processing

When the extension estimates speaking rate from audio, it measures loudness changes in the video’s sound to count syllables. This happens in memory, in real time, on your device. The audio is never recorded, saved or transmitted, and you continue to hear it as normal.

Data stored on your device

The extension uses Chrome’s local storage to remember one setting: whether to show the WPM badge on top of videos. While an audio estimate is running, it also briefly stores which tab it is working in. Both stay in your browser and are never sent anywhere. Removing the extension deletes them.

Permissions

Sharing and selling data

Because no data is collected, none is shared with or sold to anyone.

Changes to this policy

If the extension’s data practices ever change, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised.
